What does Mel Vaz have in common with Elon Musk and Warren Buffett?
I can't disagree with Elon Musk and Warren Buffet.
"Back in 2009, at the tail end of the Great Recession, Buffett said at Berkshire Hathaway’s annual shareholder’s meeting that one of the best ways to protect against inflation is to own a part of “a wonderful business.”
That’s because no matter what happens with the value of the dollar, the business’ product will still be in demand."
I must echo this sentiment. The first 2.5 months of 2021 have been my busiest since 2010, in working with both business buyers and sellers. What we are seeking is the convergence of "The Great Resignation" and the mass retirement of baby boomers.
For today's buyers, unlike 2010, banks are motivated to lend at nearly record low interest rates, home equity is at record highs and 401K's are still very high (even with the current pull back to June 2021 highs).
For today's sellers, you have record numbers of baby boomers who had planned to retire in 2020, but could not due to the pandemic. Those that survived or thrived in 2020 saw a normalization or growth of revenues in 2021. As they file their 2021 returns they are making the decision to sell after holding off for the past 2 years.
Despite inflation, war in Europe and Covid uncertainty, Warren Buffet's words remain true today as they did in 2009, ".. one of the best ways to protect against inflation is to own a part of “a wonderful business.”
That’s because no matter what happens with the value of the dollar, the business’ product will still be in demand."
I would add that business services will also still be in demand.
